Feminist Exchange Network

Feminist Exchange Network (FEN) is a South Glasgow-based collective of
women and marginalised genders. We use social and activist art as a way
to involve people in reimagining the local economy, discussing ideas of
feminism and economics in a way that is accessible to everyone.

FEN originated from The People’s Bank of Govanhill community currency
project. Beginning as a series of currency experiments, workshops
mapping intersecting local economies, FEN is now a long-term
collaborative project. Our exchange space, Swap Market (2018-2020)
provided a space for swapping and sharing resources without the need for
money. With around 2,000 members the project combined art and activism
to instigate collective thinking on what a better economic model would
look like, grown from the ground up. We held events, film screenings,
talks, art installations and workshops on community commoning, feminist
economics, action on climate change, degrowth and intersectional
feminism in practice alongside games afternoons and mending sessions.

FEN continues to run workshops and projects both locally and
trans-locally. Our projects translate academic ideas into accessible
formats, fostering community discussion and enacting alternative
economic models. We focus on global challenges and applying ideas
locally.
